This review is from: Logitech Harmony 600 Remote - Universal remote control - infraredI wanted a trouble-free universal remote to replace the remotes for my HD cable-box, Samsung LED TV, LG Bluray player and Sony Amp. Once I had all the model numbers, I used the 'test-drive' application on the Logitech website to confirm that Logitech had all my equipment in their database. Before I could use the Logitech remote, I first needed to download a software from the logitech website in order to create an account and download the settings for my equipment into the Harmony 600. The installation and set-up of the remote was trouble-free and I had the remote working easily. I am very satisfied with my harmony 600 and thought that it is at a very good price point. I was surprised that Logitech was able to keep their database up-to-date since my Sony Amp, LG Bluray are relatively new models.Just some details about my equipment:HD DVR Cable Box (DCI82SHB)Samsung LED TV 40" (UA40C6200UM)LG BD-560Sony HT-CT 150 Soundbar...
This review is from: Logitech Harmony 600 Remote - Universal remote control - infraredI tried several all in one remote control for several years. The first type in the market was mechnical combination of several remote controls. To control different type of device, you need to switch mode from TV to receiver. Remote control comes with built in database so, what you need to do is to tell which model you have by programming remote control. And it's not possible to upgrade database which means you need to buy new remote if you buy latest gadget. If you want to on or off all device together, you can program macro, which is not very easy. Logitech is completely different type of remote control. It doesn't come with built in database. Instead, you need to download harmony control software from Logitech. Using this software in your PC, you can easily add or remote devices. It also means you can always use up to date database maintained by Logitech server. Adding device is just beginning. Using Harmony, you need to define activity. Activity is the core of harmony remote. You can create activities like, 1. Watch TV2. Watch DVD3. Play Game4. Listen to RadioHarmony software knows what is needed to achieve above activities. For example, #1 requires turning on TV and set top box. If you use receiver, it turns on receiver as well. If you choose #2, it doesn't change TV but it turns off set top box and turns on DVD player. It also remember current status. If TV is already on, it doesn't send on command to TV when you choose #1. If your TV uses different input port for TV and DVD, it selects different source automatically. So, you don't need to turn on one device by device. It automatically does all for you. In #1, you can use receiver to control volume and use set top box to change channel. It's happening very seamlessly. What I like about Harmony is that, it has most extensive database. I didn't know my TV has separate on and off command. This is very useful to support separate on and off command instead of power toggle. Just imagine your TV was not on by #1 command. Once you press #1 command again, it will on the TV but off set top box and receiver. very troublesome. However, having separate command prevents this type of happening. Harmony supports all kind of commands. I recently purchased Apple TV and I wanted to add this to remote control. I could add Apple TV in a few min and created new activity called "watch my video". If you purchased device that are not in the database, you can use learn function as well. It has minor glitch. I have Samsung Projection DLP TV and had time to switch to DVD using S Video 2 source. It turns out that Logitech database put Video 2 command instead. Since Harmony SW shows what kind of command is actually used, it was possible to fix it. Customer service is superb. I originally purchased Harmony 615 model. After a few weeks, one of the button came off. I contacted customer service then they sent out new one which is Harmony 600. I didn't need to return 615 however, it can't be used since Harmony control S/W knows that my old 615 is disabled and doesn't allow new programming. Overall, Logitech Harmony is great remote and it really changes the way you interact with all your entertainment devices....
This review is from: Logitech Harmony 600 Remote - Universal remote control - infraredThis device has simplified our modest home theater setup and reduced family room clutter. I chose this model over the 650 and 700 because I didn't feel like paying an extra $20 or more for a color screen and rechargeable batteries. I recommend the product.PROS: * Works as advertised, providing one-touch access to most frequently used audio-video activities.* Remote feels good in hand.* After two weeks of use, solid build quality; feels substantial.* Backlit buttons!* Harmony software from Logitech is easy to use, opening up seemingly infinite possibilities to customize the buttons on your remote so that they make sense to YOU (and your family), not having to settle for an egineer or marketing manager's word and ergonomics preference. After setting up your activities -- which for most people won't take more than 30 minutes -- you can start tweaking the Harmony 600 til your heart's content by deciding not only which physical button control's what function, but you can assign frequently used functions to the "soft buttons" on the LCD.* Excellent troubleshooter in the software, which works with the Logitech website. Easy to access support.CONS:* (Minor): To get the most from this remote, you need to think in terms o...
