This review is from: Projector-Gear Projector Ceiling Mount for EPSON PowerLite Home Cinema 705HDThis is the cheapest mount I could find and, due to the light-weight of the 705hd, is really all one would need. Mounts on drywall (my application) or stud/wood (maybe a drop ceiling too, I'm not sure). It's low profile and looks professional. It shakes a little when a nearby door is shut hard, but I know it's not going anywhere thanks to ample threading on the toggle screws and the ball/socket type connection (that makes it adjustable). Once installed, taking down/putting up the projector will not require any tools, although the large plastic nut that secures/releases the ball from the socket could have used some wings for easier removal since there is limited space to get a good grip. Positioning is somewhat difficult because you have to tighten it first, then jerk it into place and it's pretty much hit or miss (or maybe I just haven't mastered it yet). To center it on the ceiling I just measured along the walls on opposite sides of the room and ran a string across the ceiling. I also removed a nearby ceiling fan, switched the gangbox out and turned it into an outlet/low-voltage wirepass with this Datacomm Recssd Cbl Plte Remldng Kt Elec Otlt Wht and my ceiling rig now looks fantastic....
This review is from: Projector-Gear Projector Ceiling Mount for EPSON PowerLite Home Cinema 705HDThis mount is advertised for the Epson 705HD, which has only digital keystone correction (which, if activated, will severely degrade your picture quality). This means that the projector needs to be mounted at a certain angle to the top of the screen in order to project a non-distorted picture without keystone correction. Since I ordered the mount together with the projector, I naturally assumed that this height would be the 4" which this mount praises as a benefit ("super low profile" etc). It is not. Upon mounting, I found that I had to apply a keystone correction even when projecting onto the wall all the way up to the ceiling. That means that at 4" you will ALWAYS have to use digital keystone, regardless of what screen you use. With my favi motorized 92" 16:9 screen (adjusted to show only a small piece of black screen under the housing), I had to add a 12 inch piece of 2x4" wood between the top mounting bracket and the bottom mounting bracket (which is a feasible option if you have access to a precise table saw that will cut exact 90 degree angles). Even though this solution looks okay (after painting the 2x4" wood white), it still begs the question what exactly was going on in the design phase of this product, as it's clearly not suitable for ceiling mounting for the advertised projector. If a projector offers lens-shift, sure, this is a viable install option, but using digital keystone really isn't. If you don't believe me, manually turn off the keystone on your projector and look how much crisper the image becomes (albeit distorted if you installed it incorrectly).Aside from this main flaw, the mount does include all necessary hardware for a wood beam or drywall ceiling installation, the aluminum plate is nicely made and cut precisely. However, the ball joint is very difficult to tighten completely without shifting the projector a bit in doing so, making the installation finicky. It would be nice to have a larger top plate with three or four screws instead of two for added stability and less wobble in the installation. After the modification of adding a piece of 2x4", the mount now works to my satisfaction and I would probably give it four stars. If I had to get a mount for the HD705 again, I would certainly buy another one that has the correct mounting height....
This review is from: Projector-Gear Projector Ceiling Mount for EPSON PowerLite Home Cinema 705HDWorks great with Epson 705HD, you do not need to be in a stud for this mount. The mount comes with hardware that will mount straight to a standard drywall/popcorn ceiling and the projector is so light you don't need to be in a stud. Installation took less than 30 minutes, and most of that was measuring where the projector should go. The projector/mount looks very clean and professional after the simple install. The only problem with this mount is that there is so little clearance between the ceiling and projector that it is almost impossible to completely tighten down the knob without moving the projector. As a result I can't get the mount tight enough to where I can touch the projector without moving it. Fortunately I don't need to actually touch the projector very often, so it isn't a big deal....
