Steinel HS300B - 300 Watt Halogen Security Light with Motion Sensor, Black

This review is from: Steinel HS300B - 300 Watt Halogen Security Light with Motion Sensor, BlackBrighter than I expected. Bright as a street light. It illuminates my neighbors (across the street) front yard and driveway - some 90 feet away. The sensor works great. Mine is mounted about 18 feet over my driveway on the house. Cars driving by on the street (measured at 40 feet) set the sensor off. It comes with plastic tabs which you can cut to limit the range (I will do that tomorrow). So far, no false positives (random turning on). There is absolutely no delay and turns on at every angle (even directly underneath it).Like all motion sensors - it's a pain to adjust the time setting. Lots of trial and error (and in my case, dozens of trips up and down a ladder). Of course, that's just where the technology is.The light fixture is made of a strong aluminum (it gets very hot very fast) and the sensor and mounts are made of plastic. I don't see any quality problems with this design (even though I was troubled about the plastic when taking the unit out of the box). Once mounted - it demonstrated to be very strong and secure....

This review is from: Steinel HS300B - 300 Watt Halogen Security Light with Motion Sensor, BlackJust installed on my external [extra] garage, and it worked A-OK! and without incident (EASY to wire, etc.) -- The sensor worked PERFECTLY, with both daylight and motion sensitivity (won't know how "sensitive" it is until the next rainstorm [the best test for these sensors.]), but it adjusted well and had a WIDE range of detection (evening sensing from a very high mounting).Overall, mostly satisfied with the product!! (the only negative being the underside screw that secures the body to the mounting. It was very WEAK and not well built [and easily broken]. But it still "latches" together (and does surprisingly stay put), and I plan to just make some extra holes in the sides and insert my own screws to keep it secure. Lastly, and with the last point [and, as far as quality] I noticed that the main unit is made of a sturdy aluminum [metal] housing, but the mounting is made of a "cheap" plastic. I wish they had made the ENTIRE unit out of metal. It would have been a much better and superior product. But for $70 bucks, I can't complain!! [it being MUCH better than the competitors [like the Heath/Zenith "Junk" that I've used in the past]). -- Last point - get the 300 watt model. It's worth it!! (Giving MUCH more light/illumination). I only wish they had a 500 watt model....

This review is from: Steinel HS300B - 300 Watt Halogen Security Light with Motion Sensor, BlackI purchased two of these exterior lights based on the reviews. They work almost perfectly and are very bright. They are as good as outdoor motion sensor lights get (unfortunately). The only problem that I have had is that one of the lights tends to come on during an overcast day. I'm confident that if I play with the adjustments a bit more I will get it to work as intended. That means hauling out the ladder again. One more thing, the escutcheon (attachment ring) that covers the adjustment dials is very loose. You must install the supplied motion sensor shroud to lock it securely in place. As others have said, I would have preferred the mounting plate to be metal rather than plastic. I would have also liked a notch in the mounting plate to feed the Romax wiring through. But based on other motion sensor lights that I have tried in the past, this one deserves five stars....
