This review is from: ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and ReceiverI'm looking for wireless HD solutions for a while to meet my needs : 1. to work with my DirectTV receiver DIRECTV Plus® HR24 High Definition MPEG-4 DVR (HR-24-500) HD DVRand wirelessly transmit the HD A/V signals to my 2nd TV in other room; 2. to wirelessly send signals to the projector from my laptop with HDMI output. Recently I found Amimon's WHDI solution is the most latest and advanced technology and here comes two products using this technology which can fulfill my requests and I got both of them. They are ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and Receiver (from my laptlop) and brite-View Air SyncHD New Arrival! brite-View "Air SyncHD" (BV-2322) Wireless 1080p HD Video/ Audio Transmission Kit(for my DirectTV receiver) and I'm satisfied with both of them so far though with limited time of ownership.Asus WiCast is pretty straight forward to set up, I only need to connect the transmitter to my laptop and connect the receiver to the projector and it's done, it wirelessly streams everything on my laptop screen to the projector and then on the projection screen. The quality of signals and transmission are great (but probably it's designed for in-room usage only so there's limitation of the distance and the penetration. I tried to connect it to the DirecTV receiver but the signal got choppy after the wall in between even it's within 30 feet). brite-View Air SyncHD works just like it should be, I connect the transmitter to DirectTV receiver (and connect the HDMI output of the transmitter with HDTV to pass through the signals) and also connect the receiver to my 2nd TV in other room within 30 feet. The quality of HD A/V signals and transmission are great too, only it takes a bit longer to synchronize. The penetration is great without any delay and I can control the DirectTV receiver in other room with its IR sensor/extender. I really like these two products and the WHDI technology really works great. I review both of them is to provide information and reference for those who are also looking for wireless HD solutions and you can decide which one is most suitable for your situation. Hopefully it helps!...

This review is from: ASUS WiCast EW2000 Wireless HD Video Transmitter and ReceiverI'm a believer. The WiCast EW2000 really does distribute FullHD media to nearby rooms -- wirelessly. No more drilling holes through walls, futzing with stuttering WiFi routers or underperforming Powerline devices. The WiCast performs according to specifications. I'm able to transmit 1080p movies with 8 channel audio through walls without stutter, dropouts, or annoying audio delays. The WiCast appears to be the first device to incorporate the new WHDI (wireless HDMI) standard. I detected absolutely no WiFi degradation when used simultaneously with the WiCast. The WiCast is able to transmit HDMI from my HTPC, through two walls, over 20 feet, to my projector. It maintains a consistent high quality signal. I don't notice any artifacting when playing 1080p movies. The image is razor sharp. However, I do notice some sparkling when transmitting a PC desktop at 1080p even over short distances. This suggests to me that the device isn't perfect for all usages but it certainly works well for viewing 1080p video content. That's my main usage. YMMV. The video image shows noise when the device overextends its range, similar to the noise seen in high ISO digital camera photos. If the range gets too far, the image goes in and out.The box contains two devices and several HDMI cables. The flat device is the transmitter. The standing device is the receiver. Shame on ASUS for not making this clear. The two devices are cigarette package sized. I expect that next year's WHDI devices will be USB stick sized. Size isn't important for my situation as the devices will not be removed and are small enough. Be aware that the receiver device has an audible fan. It may be a bit annoying to some.In summary, the device performs well and is an excellent and welcome solution to wirelessly distributing Blu-Ray movies PROVIDED you don't overextend its range or become annoyed by the noticeable fan noise.Update: 29-Oct-2010: Note that New Arrival! brite-View "Air SyncHD" (BV-2322) Wireless 1080p HD Video/ Audio Transmission Kit seems similar to the WiCast but has the potentially valuable features of an HDMI pass-through port and IR remote. However, I see that the description makes no mention of 8 channel audio transmission.Update: 4-Nov-2010: I'm seeing that the WiCast has trouble with EDIDs. It has issues with determining the receiving devices video resolutions and audio abilities and passing it on to the source device. Result is wrong video resolution and wrong or substandard audio. This is likely a showstopper for advanced users who attempt to use certain devices. I believe some devices will be problematic and others not. Also depends on needs and expectations. ASUS needs to do some work in the EDID area.Update: 6-Nov-2010: Note to advanced users. You're probably wondering ab...
